Lying. We all do it. And if you say you don't then guess what? You're a liar. There's no way anyone has never lied about something in their life. But imagine your whole friendship with someone was based on a lie. Now imagine the lies grow and grow until the unthinkable happens.

Honestly, this debut novel by Paula Johnston is one of the most gripping thrillers I've read and, as you've probably figured out, it is about the consequences of lying, the naivety of being honest and the lengths some people will go to get what they want. The book studies other themes as well such as love, loyalty and hypocrisy (as I said, we all lie sometimes).

For this being Johnston's first novel, I was amazed by the amount of turns I hadn't seem coming. this book is very cleverly written and totally gripping. If you like romance books with a thrilling, psychological twist, I would definitely recommend 'The Lies She Told'.

Now, for someone sitting here writing book reviews, I must admit, I can be easily distracted from reading. Even some of the world's most admired authors have bored me and their books have sat on my bookshelf with a bookmark slotted in after chapter 1 for years. I did not have that same problem with this book! All 400+ pages were ravished in just two days.

Looking forward to seeing what else Paula will be writing for us as I will definitely be reading it!
